The Soft Matter Physics Group investigates the structure, dynamics and kinetics of nanostructured polymer systems, e.g. amphiphilic and switchable block copolymers, also under high pressure, thin polymer films, as well as polymer nanoparticles and hydrogels for medical applications. We mainly use scattering methods, both at large facilities and in the lab.

Abstract: Perdeuterated poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM-d10) is synthesized by free radical polymerization and characterized by 2H NMR, Fourier-transform infrared, and Raman spectroscopy. A concentrated…
Journal of Polymer Science
Abstract: A diblock copolymer featuring a hydrophobic block with a low glass transition temperature and a pH-responsive, cationic block is synthesized and investigated with respect to its self-assembly behavior…
Advanced Science
Abstract: Understanding the salt effects on solvation behaviors of thermoresponsive polymers is crucial for designing and optimizing responsive systems suitable for diverse environments. In this work, the…
Macromolecules
Abstract: Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) is known for exhibiting lower critical solution temperature behavior in water. A structural isomer of PNIPAM, the likewise LCST-type polymer…

Abstract: A diblock copolymer featuring a hydrophobic block with a low glass transition temperature and a pH-responsive, cationic block is synthesized and investigated with respect to its self-assembly behavior…
Soft Matter
Abstract: Three sets of water-soluble non-ionic polymers, which are thermo- as well as photo-responsive, are synthesized by statistical copolymerization of hydrophilic substituted acrylamides with varying…
Macromolecules
Abstract: In the present study, the effect of the distribution of repeated units in copolymers based on oligo(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate (A), n-butyl methacrylate (B), and di(ethylene glycol)…
Journal of Physical Chemistry B
Abstract: In this work, thermal transitions and dielectric behavior of mixtures of water with thermoresponsive polystyrene-block-poly(methoxydiethylene glycol acrylate) (PS-b-PMDEGA) copolymers are studied in…
Macromolecules
Abstract: Arylazopyrazoles (AAPs) are a rapidly emerging class of photoswitches, which stand out due to their distinct absorption maxima of the E- and Z-isomers, the highly Z- or E-isomer-rich photo stationary…
Soft Matter
Abstract: The pressure-induced changes of the micellar structures and aggregation behavior of a thermoresponsive diblock copolymer, consisting of a short poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and a long…
