We conduct research in the area of the physics of energy conversion and storage. The main topics include the design and implementation of functional materials and a better understanding and characterization of electrified interfaces. The material design is based on a bottom-up approach using input from electrochemical surface science and starting from model surfaces.
Nano Materials Science
Abstract: The effects of seemingly inert alkali metal (AM) cations on the electrocatalytic activity of electrode materials towards reactions essential for energy provision have become the emphasis of…
Materials Advances
Abstract: TiO2 nanowires have proven their importance as a versatile material in numerous fields of technology due to their unique properties attributable to their high aspect ratio and large surface area.…
ChemElectroChem
Abstract: Typically, a detailed non-destructive characterization and quality assessment of concretes under “real-world”, for example, road conditions, are complicated. Impedance spectroscopy is a powerful…
Chemistry-Methods
Abstract: Polymer membrane electrolyzers benefit from high-pressure operation conditions and low gas cross-over and can either conduct protons (H+) or hydroxide ions (OH−). Both types of electrolyzers have a…
ChemElectroChem
Abstract: To reduce the costs of proton exchange membrane fuel cells, the amount of Pt necessary to drive efficient oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) should be minimized. Particle nanostructuring,…
Journal of the American Chemical Society
Abstract: The classical theory of the electrical double layer (EDL) does not consider the effects of the electrode surface structure on the EDL properties. Moreover, the best agreement between the traditional…
Small Science
Abstract: Nanostructured palladium (Pd) is a universal catalyst that is widely used in applications ranging from catalytic converters of combustion engine cars to hydrogenation catalysts in industrial…
ChemElectroChem
Abstract: Understanding the internal reactions in Li-ion batteries is crucial to analyze them more accurately and improve their efficiency since they are involved in almost every aspect of everyday life.…
Advanced Materials Interfaces
Abstract: Zinc titanate films with mesoporous structures have widespread applications ranging from sensors to supercapacitors and bio-devices owing to their photoelectric properties and specific surface area.…
Journal of Physical Chemistry C
Abstract: Electrolyte species can significantly influence the electrocatalytic performance. In this work, we investigate the impact of alkali metal cations on the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) on active Pt5Gd…
