Dark-Field X-ray Imaging: An Evolving Technique in the Century-Old History of X-ray Imaging

Talk by Dr. Thomas Koehler

Dr. Thomas Koehler

Speaker: Dr. Thomas Koehler
Date: Wednesday, June 1, 2022
Time: 1 pm (until approx. 2 pm)
Location: online

Abstract:
X-ray imaging is a mature and widely used method for the diagnosis of lung diseases, even though its sensitivity is limited for many diseases, e.g., chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and COVID-19. Dark-field X-ray imaging is a novel interferometric X-ray technology that can overcome this limitation. In this talk, the technology will be outlined and recent clinical results obtained using the world-wide first and only clinical prototype system at the Klinikum rechts der Isar will be discussed. Finally, an outlook to the translation of the dark-field x-ray imaging concept to Computed Tomography will be given.

The event is organized by the Institute for Advanced Study (TUM-IAS). More information and registration for this TUM-IAS Wednesday Coffee talk.
